We are looking for a Specialist Support Worker to work in Thorndale Life House in Belfast.

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, motivated, a good communicator, passionate, and positive.

Key Responsibilities:

The Specialist Support Worker at Thorndale Life House plays a crucial role in providing enhanced support within our service for clients with complex needs. Thorndale Life House has 31 self-contained, furnished flats, including 27 flats and 4 single rooms for females who share lounge, bathroom, and kitchen facilities. In partnership with North Belfast Housing, we also offer an additional 11 self-contained, furnished flats on the same site.

We provide 24-hour accommodation for families and single women in need of short-term housing. Support will be tailored to address individual needs, enabling clients to achieve positive life changes and empowering them to lead more sustainable lifestyles. As a Specialist Support Worker, you will lead in delivering the centre's Harm Reduction and Psychosocial programmes. You will be responsible for developing and delivering high-quality support programmes that promote client choice and control, helping clients meet their support needs and empowering them towards sustainable lifestyles. You will be part of our Support Team, which may include participating in management duties with on-call responsibilities as required.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be sympathetic to the Christian values of The Salvation Army.
  • Participate in management and duty management rotas as needed.
  • Use initiative in problem-solving for the benefit of clients and colleagues.
  • Deliver client-focused programmes using a psychologically informed approach.
  • Work effectively in busy environments, demonstrating solution-focused thinking, prioritization, and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have experience in building and maintaining strong partnerships with stakeholders and other services.
  • Act as an advocate for clients, including supporting them to attend appointments.
  • Deliver the centre's Harm Reduction and Psychosocial programmes.
  • Support and develop Support Workers and Assistant Support Workers through training, mentoring, and monitoring interventions with clients.
