Job summary

IEG in Stamford is seeking a Specialist Support Tutor – Core Skills to provide high-quality teaching and personalised learning to students with SEND.

This 15-hour-per-week, permanent role involves small-group and 1:1 support, with duties including planning sessions, assessing needs, and tracking progress.

You will work with SEN coordination teams, using assistive technology to help learners build confidence and independence.

Qualifications

  • Experience of teaching and supporting learners with SEND.
  • Capable of planning and delivering personalised learning sessions.
  • Experience with EHCPs, assessments, and referrals is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver inclusive sessions across English, maths and study skills.
  • Assess learner needs, set SMART targets and monitor progress.
  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support using appropriate assistive tech.
  • Collaborate with SEN Coordinator and curriculum teams to ensure consistent support.

Are you an experienced and passionate teacher or learning support professional who is committed to helping students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) achieve their full potential?

We are looking for a Specialist Support Tutor – Core Skills to join our dedicated team and provide high-quality, personalised teaching and learning to students with SEND.

Working 15 hours per week, you will support identified students through small-group and 1:1 sessions, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to succeed in education and beyond.

About the role

You will plan and deliver engaging, inclusive sessions covering areas such as English, maths, language and study skills, adapting your approach to meet individual needs.

Depending on student requirements, your work may include supporting learners with:

  • Core English and maths skills
  • Study skills and exam preparation
  • Assistive technology and specialist software
  • Communication and learning strategies
  • Individual support needs identified through assessments, EHCPs and referrals
  • Developing independence and confidence in accessing the wider learning environment

You will assess individual needs, set and review SMART targets, monitor progress and provide evidence of the impact of support. You will work closely with the SEN Coordinator, curriculum teams, Exam Access Arrangements Coordinator, Wellbeing and Safeguarding Team and other colleagues to ensure students receive consistent, effective and person‑centred support.

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A qualified teacher or tutor with a Level 5 teaching qualification such as a PGCE, Cert Ed, Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent
  • Experienced in teaching, assessing and supporting learners with SEND
  • Confident planning and delivering personalised learning sessions

Experience of working with EHCPs, Exam Access Arrangements, ALS provision, Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA), staff training or specialist SEND provision would be advantageous.
