Job description

Specialist Stroke Speech and Language Therapist
Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the Stroke Team, based at the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Camborne Redruth Community Hospital. This is a 8 month fixed contract to cover maternity leave. You will help provide a seamless service for stroke patients which will include flexible, cross-boundary working within the wider Integrated Community Stroke Services. You will also work collaboratively with other members of the specialist multi-disciplinary team.

This is an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to work in a Stroke Rehabilitation Unit in the West of Cornwall. You will need to have specialist knowledge and skills in both stroke and older adults combined with excellent communication and organisational skills.

We will offer a supportive working environment in which to continue to develop your clinical skills, a structured in-service training programme, appraisal and supervision system.

Main duties of the job

To work as a Stroke Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within Lanyon Stroke Rehabilitation Unit

To autonomously undertake comprehensive assessment of those referred using investigative and analytical skills and to formulate individualised interventions based on advanced clinical reasoning and partnership working.

To encourage and enable service users and carers involvement and choice in all intervention options and decisions regarding their care plans / goals wherever possible.

Apply specialist skills and knowledge to provide specialist SLT services for individuals following stroke

Share the outcome of communication assessment and guidance on required adaptations with relevant others to ensure that individuals are correctly supported with their communication needs, including to support in efficacy of other health interventions.

Apply specialist knowledge to participate in the planning, development and evaluation of high-quality Speech and Language Therapy services for adults following stroke

To support and mentor the rehabilitation support workers on Lanyon ward
