Job description

A Vacancy at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.

Due to current post-holders being successful in obtaining more senior positions, we are seeking two motivated, forward-thinking permanent full-time Band 6 speech and language therapists with strong interests in neuro-rehabilitation to join us at one of the UK’s leading rehabilitation units.

The Regional Hyper-acute Rehabilitation Unit (RHRU) is a tertiary service which caters for adults with severe complex neurological disability, accepting referrals from Greater London, the South East and East of England. It is a highly specialised, level one rehabilitation service combining inpatient services (24 beds) with outreach support to community rehabilitation teams, nursing homes and other professionals across the network. A range of patients are treated at the RHRU, from people requiring high level cognitive and vocational rehabilitation to people who are in a prolonged disorder of consciousness (PDoC) or who are receiving neuropalliative care.

The RHRU is a centre of research and learning, and the successful candidate will be able to participate in research and improvement activities, in-house and external training, regular supervision and competency development, and peer support networks.

You will join a team of four qualified SLTs working within a large, supportive multidisciplinary team. There are opportunities to further develop skills in complex dysphagia, augmentative/alternative communication, tracheostomy management, prolonged disorders of consciousness, FEES, videofluroscopy and specialist neuropalliative care under the guidance of expert clinicians. The RHRU SLT team is supported by the larger SLT department at Northwick Park Hospital, contributing to Trust-wide initiatives and support offers, and contributing to the operation of the hospital’s videofluroscopy clinic.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) cares for the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond. Our team of more than 8,200 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of almost one million people.

We are a university teaching NHS trust, in recognition of the important role we play in training clinicians of the future and bringing the benefits of research to the public.
