Job description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Band 6 Specialist SaLT in Paediatric dysphagia, to join our friendly, innovative and supportive Children's team in Bradford, a vibrant multicultural city.

This post will provide the opportunity to work within the Children's team providing support to our Paediatric population and their families from newborns to 18-year-olds with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties. There is opportunity to work with colleagues within the wider multidisciplinary team.

You will join a team of dedicated Speech and Language Therapists and Clinical Support Workers who are passionate about meeting the needs of our population.

The Speech and Language Therapy service provides a supportive network of generalist, specialist and highly specialist therapists working in a wide range of clinical areas, and there are excellent opportunities for continuous professional development and clinical supervision.

Main duties of the job

To work effectively as part of an established paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team, to provide assessment, therapy, advice and support to our paediatric population and their families from newborn -18 who have specific needs in relation to their eating, drinking and swallowing.

To assess, develop and implement specialist Speech and Language Therapy treatment.

To manage a caseload of complex cases within paediatric dysphagia.

To offer specialist clinical advice/training/support to SLT colleagues and other professionals in paediatric dysphagia.

Person Specification
Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered Speech and Language Therapist with Health Professionals Council.
  • RCSLT Registration.
  • SLT Degree/dip Qualification.
  • Post graduate RCSLT accredited training in Dysphagia.

Desirable:

  • Post graduate training in neonates or children under the age of 1.
  • Post graduate training and experience of complex airway issues e.g. tracheostomy.
Knowledge and skills

Essential:

  • Excellent knowledge of a range of therapeutic approaches relevant to the clinical specialism.
  • In-depth Knowledge and evidence of multi professional/multi agency working.
  • Ability to mentor SLT New Graduate, SLT Generalist and Clinical Support Workers.
  • Able to work independently for most general cases with support for complex clinical cases specialism.
  • In-depth Knowledge and experience of working in a multi-cultural environment.

Desirable:

  • Ability to speak one or more locality languages.
Experience

Essential:

  • In depth experience of working with a range of paediatric eating and drinking difficulties age 0 -18.
  • Experience of working in a Multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience supporting pre-grad SLT students, clinical support workers and junior colleagues.
  • Evidence of training others e.g. parents, support staff, professionals.
  • Experience of working in a variety of health, social, educational and residential settings.
  • Experience of working effectively with Bilingual Assistants and Interpreters.
