A leading NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a specialist speech and language therapist to provide interventions for trans and non-binary patients. The role includes managing a patient caseload and delivering tailored voice therapy, supported by ongoing training and professional development opportunities. Candidates must possess relevant qualifications and experience in trans voice therapy.
Job summary
The post-holder is a specialist speech and language therapist providing specialist interventions, under appropriate supervision, in voice and communication therapy for trans and non-binary patients/service users both within individual and group settings according to principles, competence and standards set down by the service and in line with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
The post-holder will use developing knowledge and skills in voice and communication therapy, voice pedagogy, psychological approaches appropriate in voice work, and cultural sensitivity through ongoing training and supervision to deliver gender-affirming voice work.
The post-holder will participate in service development initiatives, peer supervision and training, multi-disciplinary team working and as a member of the GIC Speech and Language Therapy service.
Main duties of the jobTo manage (with appropriate monthly supervision) a caseload of trans and non-binary patients reflecting developing specialist knowledge of voice and communication there
To provide specialist intervention in pitch, intonation, vocal fold mass, and voice quality in individual sessions, underpinned by a sound knowledge of counselling skills and awareness of other approaches such as Mindfulness.
To work on site 3 days per week during probation period and the first year in post, necessary for essential voice and therapeutic training and close supervision. On completion of first year competences, work on site is a minimum of 2 days per week, in line with trust policy, with remote/home working scheduled and agreed by the Lead Consultant SLT and Head of SLT service.
To deliver specialist interventions to trans and non-binary clients in voice group therapy settings, in liaison with Lead Consultant, Principal, Advanced Specialist and Specialist Speech and Language Therapists.
To input into SLT student placements, audit and research projects for the Speech and Language Therapy service, supported by the Lead Consultant, Principal, Advanced Specialist and Specialist Speech and Language Therapists.
To act in accordance with appropriate professional and ethical conduct and standards of excellence.
