Are you looking for an opportunity to enter the field of complex needs and dysphagia or further develop your skills in this area? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join the Complex Needs SLT team within Barts Health NHS Trust.
The successful applicant will have experience working with children aged 0 – 5 years with complex needs and will be looking to further develop their knowledge and skills in dysphagia and complex communication / AAC.
The post holder will have the opportunity to be part of a team that delivers transdisciplinary routines-based early intervention services, using a coaching approach, in the management of children with complex developmental difficulties. There may also be an opportunity to work part of the time within our specials schools team (based at Stephen Hawking School).
The post holder will be joining a well-established, highly supportive, and innovative Complex Needs SLT Team, supported by the Lead Speech and Language Therapist for Complex Needs and Dysphagia, with regular supervision and access to professional development opportunities. Flexible working will be considered.
The main office base is located at Mile End Hospital, conveniently located between Mile End and Stepney Green tube stations and serviced by several local buses.
Main duties of the job
The Children’s Therapy Team includes Community Children’s Speech and Language Therapy (SLT), Occupational, and Physiotherapy teams, divided into three sub-teams – under 5s, primary school, and transition teams. The team is part of Specialist Community Children’s Services within the Children and Young People’s Division of Barts Health NHS Trust.
Community-based services are offered to babies, children, and young people in Tower Hamlets, delivered in schools, pre-school settings, clinics, and homes. The team aims to work in partnership with children, families, and providers to facilitate participation in daily activities. The SLT team addresses communication and eating/drinking needs through universal, targeted, and specialist services.
The post holder is an autonomous practitioner with opportunities to develop expertise in working with children with complex communication and eating, drinking, and swallowing difficulties in a community setting. The role involves providing care as part of the integrated Primary Service Provider (PSP) team delivering transdisciplinary routines-based early intervention services.
