Job description

Job Summary

We have a wonderful opportunity to work as a specialist Speech and Language Therapist in beautiful Shropshire. The post is based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, with three days in Shrewsbury and two days in Oswestry.

The Shrewsbury days include domiciliary visits and neurology outpatient sessions, while the Oswestry days focus on domiciliary services. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive services across mid and North West Shropshire, working autonomously and collaborating with ICS teams.

Main Duties

Provide services to a defined geographical area, including neuro outpatient sessions, home visits, and collaboration with local teams. Driving and access to a vehicle are required due to the extensive and rural area. Skills in dysphagia and communication therapy are essential, with opportunities to attend clinics like Video fluoroscopy and FEES to enhance learning.

About Us

The community SLT team at SATH comprises 9 Speech and Language Therapists and 2 Assistant practitioners, working across Shropshire, including hospitals and ICS teams. We have clinical leads in various specialisms and offer regular supervision, CPD, and professional development in a supportive environment.

Person Specification

Educational Qualifications

• GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths
• Entry requirements for university professional training

Professional/Technical Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Speech & Language Therapy
• HCPC registration
• Specialist clinical training in relevant areas

Work Experience

• Broad pre and post qualification experience
• Experience in voice, neuro, and dysphagia
• Teaching and research experience

Knowledge and Skills

• CPD portfolio demonstrating relevant clinical experience
• Clinical reasoning at a specialist level
• Excellent communication, organization, and IT skills
