Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting specialist assessments for children of pre-school and school age, analyzing understanding and use of vocabulary, speech sounds, grammar, voice, social language use, non-verbal communication, carer-child interaction, and play skills.
- Providing recommendations for the multi-disciplinary team regarding differential diagnoses, aligned with NICE guidelines for children suspected of autism spectrum condition.
- Collaborating with the Clinical Lead for autism assessment pathways, coordinating multi-disciplinary meetings, and chairing them in their absence.
- Writing and sharing clinical reports based on assessment findings, including ongoing speech & language needs.
- Advising team members and professionals on the ongoing care of caseload children and contributing to statutory processes as needed.
- Managing time effectively to meet objectives.
- Supporting assessment and support for children with feeding difficulties within the Speech & Language team.
- Maintaining clear, concise clinical records in line with trust policies.
- Upholding high standards of professional and clinical practice.
- Maintaining HCPC registration.
- Recognizing professional boundaries and seeking advice or training when necessary.
- Being proactive and innovative, encouraging this in others.
- Respecting cultural differences and ensuring service accessibility for all children.
- Participating actively in service meetings.
- Adhering to trust and local policies, implementing relevant national policies.
- Contributing to service evaluation and development through clinical governance.
- Providing clinical activity data and routine CPD records, observing data protection.
- Developing expertise in speech, language, and communication difficulties through collaboration, training, and self-study.
- Encouraging user involvement in service evaluation.
- Offering advice and training to multi-agency colleagues on ASD.
- Participating in research and clinical audits as directed.
- Participating in child safeguarding procedures as necessary.
