Job overview

·To provide visible clinical leadership and evidence-based information and education on smoking in pregnancy to women and their families, other members of the smoking cessation team, and other health professionals, in line with Trust policies, the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards, the NMC Code and current public health guidance such as the NHS Long Term Plan objectives for a smoke free pregnancy pathway or the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle.

·The post holder will work in partnership with service users, the multi-disciplinary team, the in-reach smoking cessation team and local stakeholders to improve and protect health and wellbeing by focusing upon improving outcomes of women with the single biggest modifiable risk factors for stillbirth.

·The post holder will work closely with the Senior Midwifery Management Team to further develop related pathways and guidelines to assure appropriate and responsive care.

Main duties of the job

·Providing an opt-out expert support service to pregnant smokers including those who either decline referral to the smoking cessation team, or who accept referral but subsequently do not engage.

·The post holder will liaise with different stakeholders within the hospital and the community setting in order to provide the 12-week treatment programme for pregnant women and their household members. 2 weeks of this 12-week period will involve direct provision to all pregnant women.

Qualifications

  • Registered midwife with active registration
