Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting an experienced SEND Teacher to join a specialist school supporting autistic learners aged 3-19 in South London. You will plan and deliver highly differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with complex needs and support communication, independence and wellbeing.

The role emphasises collaboration with Therapists and staff, EHCP target review, and maintaining a nurturing classroom environment to help each learner progress in meaningful ways.

Qualifications

• Qualified teacher with QTS/QTLS or equivalent.
• Experience teaching pupils with PMLD, SLD, ASD and complex SEND.
• Experience in a specialist or special school environment.
• Strong knowledge of sensory curriculum approaches and intensive interaction.
• Experience using communication-focused teaching strategies.
• Knowledge of AAC and alternative communication methods.
• Experience supporting pupils with physical disabilities and complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, highly differentiated lessons for pupils with PMLD, SLD, Autism and complex SEND.
• Develop pupils' communication, independence, sensory regulation and social interaction.
• Deliver sensory and communication-focused learning tailored to individual needs.
• Use approaches including Makaton, AAC, communication switches and sensory-based strategies.
• Work closely with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and other staff.
• Contribute towards and review EHCP targets to remain meaningful and achievable.
• Support pupils with sensory and emotional regulation.
• Monitor progress using small-step achievement frameworks.
• Support pupils with physical disabilities and complex medical needs.
• Understand feeding programmes, mobility support, positioning and personal care per care plans.
• Maintain regular communication with parents and carers regarding development and achievements.
• Create a safe, positive and nurturing classroom environment.
