An exciting opportunity has arisen to join thenurse ledDorset Bowel Cancer Screening Centre.You will join a highly skilled, motivated team delivering Bowel Cancer population screening toDorset.Bowel Cancer Screening is offered to every Dorsetresidentfromthe ages of fiftyyears andseventy fiveyears.Enabling the early detectionand treatmentofcolorectal cancers. Successful candidates willbe employed by University HospitalsDorsetNHS Foundation Trust,based at the Poole Hospital site. There will bean expectation that youtraveltofour otherscreening siteswithin Dorset.

The successful candidate will support subjects through the screening pathway including assessingsubjectsfitness for colonoscopy. Supporting subjects to make informed choices, delivering healthylife styleadvice. Reviewing and actioning investigation results including histopathology. Delivering investigation resultsand ensuring subjectsoutcomes arecorrect.

An essential requirement is to attend the Bowel CancerSpecialistPractitioner Course and to undertake further training toenablethesuccessfulcandidate tofulfilthe SSP requirements.

Please note if the role or service is relocated as part of a planned move, employees will not be eligible for excess mileage reimbursement. Travel from the postholder's home to the new work base will be considered a normal commute. Actively and routinely participating in clinical and data audits within the programme

Working collaboratively with the Programme Hub, Screening Centre Director, Programme Manager

Lead Nurse and other SSPs.

Co-ordinating and providing the highest standard of care from the BCSP centre to address the needs

of individuals arising as a consequence of bowel cancer screening.

Assessing patients’ care needs, at all six sites (and any other as shall be deemed necessary to meet

requirements of the screening populations, e.g. prisons) within the Dorset BCSP, and the

development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care for colorectal investigation.

Acting as the patient’s advocate supporting them throughout all stages of the screening process.

Participate in health promotion activities with local health promotion services to ensure equal access to

healthcare and information across all sections of society.

Populating and maintaining the local Bowel Screening Programme database.

Primary Health services Support the provision of telephone helpline services run from the hub by resolving queries referred by them to the screening centre Provide advice, information and support for those making direct contact with the screening centre. Establish effective links with local colorectal cancer multidisciplinary teams in order to ensure that: · Where cancer is detected, there is a timely presentation and transfer of patients to the MDT at location agreed with patient. · Patient records for the screening services are completed to include data on treatment, staging and outcomes provided by the MDT. Promote good working relationships and collaborative working with the Inter-professional team, within the unit, Trust and other BCSP partner sites. Liaise with other health care professionals regarding the needs of patients and implement appropriate action. Ability to communicate effectively in a sensitive and appropriate manner with patients and carers when breaking bad news and providing psychological support on diagnosis and treatment.
