Job description
Overview

The Specialist Safeguarding midwife will be an expert practitioner from whom all clinical staff can seek advice and support on maternity safeguarding concerns. The post holder will support the delivery of robust safeguarding planning to protect vulnerable groups of women and babies, identifying risk and contributing to birth planning. The role will contribute to the All Age think family duty, delivery safeguarding training, and improve quality of care to patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support to midwives and obstetricians at base site for families with significant safeguarding concerns both within the hospital and local community settings.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant safeguarding meetings (discharge planning, child protection, weekly case management with safeguarding practitioners).
  • Foster a culture of professionalism and clinical leadership within the safeguarding team, motivating staff across EKHUFT.
  • Support local teaching and orientation of all learners and new staff, including student midwives, student nurses and medical students allocated to the Safeguarding Service.
Qualifications

Applicants should be a Band 5 or above midwife with experience in safeguarding, strong clinical practice, leadership, and facilitation of learning. The role requires commitment to safeguarding legislation and national guidance.
