Main duties of the job

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

Job responsibilities

We provide both a well-woman screening service (NHSBSP) and a busy symptomatic imaging service. The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service invites around 117,000 women every three years for screening. The service has two mobile units, as well as three static sites at:

  • Westmorland General Hospital
  • Furness General Hospital
  • Mobile Screening Van which rotates around the Blackpool, Fleetwood, Preston, Lytham and Poulton le Fylde region

Successful candidates will travel across Lancashire and South Cumbria in close proximity to the scenic Lake District. We are well equipped with new GE Pristina and 3D Mammography sets, with stereotactic biopsy capabilities.

Whilst the role would be based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, there would be a requirement to work across all screening sites to meet the need of the service. The role will also entail providing a symptomatic imaging service.
