Job summary

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a dedicated podiatrist to join our multidisciplinary diabetic foot team. The role offers clinical leadership, teaching, and involvement in research within a large teaching hospital in the East of England.

You will work in both inpatient and outpatient settings, contributing to the management of complex foot disease and collaborating with diabetes, microbiology, vascular, and orthopaedic colleagues.

Qualifications

• Registered podiatrist with UK HCPC registration or eligible for registration.
• Experience in diabetic foot care or multidisciplinary teams preferred.
• Ability to supervise junior staff and students.
• Strong clinical leadership and teaching skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the Principal Podiatrist in daily operational and financial management.
• Provide clinical leadership within the specialty and educational guidance.
• Supervise junior team members, rotating podiatrists, and students in outpatient settings.
• Oversee day-to-day running of the diabetic foot service in inpatient and outpatient clinics.
• Order, interpret and advise on microbiology, radiology and laboratory results; use PGDs for antibiotics.
• Lead and contribute to clinical research and audits within the department.

Job description

We would like to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic podiatrist to join our multidisciplinary diabetic foot team based at the Norfolk & Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a really exciting opportunity to join a well-established multidisciplinary diabetic foot team which is one of the largest in the East of England and we see over 700 new patients and 6500 follow-ups per year, all of whom have complex foot disease.

What We Can Offer

You will join a team of seven podiatrists. We can offer real variety in different sub-specialty working alongside consultants' colleagues in diabetes, microbiology, vascular, and orthopaedic surgery in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

However, being based in one of the UK’s leading research hospital the role of a podiatrist can become so much more. We are actively involved in several large multicenter research projects and publish widely on many aspects of diabetic foot disease. This would give the successful applicant the opportunity to participate in the ongoing research and contribute to the department’s ongoing research strategy.

To support the Principal Podiatrist in the daily operational and financial management of the team. You will provide clinical leadership within the specialty including educational, professional and managerial guidance.

You will be responsible for the daily clinical supervision of junior team members, podiatrist on rotation or students in outpatients, and other support staff within the team both administrative and clinical.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of the diabetic foot service providing specialist outpatient and inpatient podiatry services to people with acute diabetic foot complications in a busy clinical environment.

You work as part of the team in dedicated medical, and surgical clinics and ward rounds.

You will be required to order, interpret and advise on the results of microbiology, radiology and laboratory investigations. You will utilise the departments PGDs to supply antibiotics.

You will help lead clinical research and audit being carried out within the department. The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is a teaching Hospital; therefore, you will be actively involved in the development and delivery of education material.
