Job summary

Supply Desk is recruiting a Specialist PMLD Teacher to join a dedicated Maidenhead specialist SEND provision. The role supports pupils with PMLD/SLD/ASD and other complex needs, with flexible part-time or full-time options.

You will deliver personalised, sensory-led learning plans, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and help pupils develop communication, independence, and life skills in a nurturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) desirable
  • Experience supporting pupils with PMLD/SLD/ASD or complex needs
  • Strong understanding of personalised learning and inclusive teaching

Responsibilities

  • Deliver highly engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs
  • Use sensory-based and experiential learning approaches to maximise pupil engagement
  • Plan and review personalised learning pathways and EHCP targets
  • Support pupils with complex medical, physical and communication needs
  • Implement communication strategies (Makaton, PECS, AAC, Intensive Interaction)
  • Track progress through observation and assessment of small-step achievements
  • Create a calm, safe, and stimulating learning environment
  • Collaborate with support staff, families, therapists, and external agencies
  • Build partnerships with parents, carers, therapists and other professionals
  • Promote independence, wellbeing, confidence, and positive outcomes for learners

The Role

As a Specialist PMLD Teacher, you will deliver highly personalised learning programmes designed around the individual needs and strengths of each pupil. Using sensory-led teaching approaches, communication strategies, and innovative learning experiences, you will support students in achieving important developmental milestones while fostering engagement and wellbeing.

Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, families, and medical professionals, you will ensure pupils receive a holistic educational experience that supports both learning and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with support staff to ensure exceptional levels of care and learning support.

What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable, although experienced SEN practitioners will also be considered.
  • Previous experience supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, ASD, or other complex additional needs.
  • Strong understanding of personalised learning and inclusive teaching practices.
  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to education.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with physical, medical, and sensory needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Availability to work part-time or full-time in the Maidenhead area.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience working within a specialist school or resource provision.
  • Training or experience in Makaton, PECS, AAC, or sensory learning approaches.
  • Knowledge of moving and handling procedures.
  • Experience working alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Physiotherapists.
  • Team Teach or positive behaviour support training.
