Midlothian Council is seeking Specialist Plant Operatives to join their team at Fushiebridge Depot. The role involves operating various specialist plant equipment and requires relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering. The position offers a permanent contract with 36 hours of work per week and opportunities for training. Successful candidates will be appointed at the first point on the salary scale.
Midlothian Council is inviting applications from candidates with specialist plant experience to help us deliver a variety of exciting projects utilizing our extensive fleet, which has seen investment to ensure we have the tools to deliver quality projects for our communities.
Candidates should have experience and qualifications in a variety of the following areas; however, we are a great place to grow, and successful candidates will be given training to gain skills on items of plant they are not currently trained on. The list is not exhaustive, and we are currently exploring new ways to deliver projects.
Essential
Jobholders must hold SVQ Level 3 in Civil Engineering Technologies/Highways Maintenance or an equivalent qualification, or a relevant HNC, along with extensive post-qualification experience in the road maintenance industry, particularly in operating specialist plant.
They must be familiar with and confident in carrying out a variety of tasks as outlined in the main duties section and be able to operate a number of items of plant associated with these tasks safely.
Full clean HGV Class C driving licence is required.
An SVQ Level 2 module in winter maintenance is also desirable.

Note: It is Midlothian Council's policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale. The minimum salary for this position, based on 36 hours/week over 52 weeks, is £30,243.53 per annum.
