Job description

We havean exciting opportunity for a Specialist Physiotherapist in BuckinghamshireHealthcare NHS Trust to join the National Spinal Injuries Centre Team at StokeMandeville Hospital. You will be responsible for assessing and treatingpatients with spinal cord injuries and complex needs, working as an autonomouspractitioner within the specialist clinical and interdisciplinary team. Youwill provide advice, guidance and information to healthcare professionals,carers, relatives and other relevant individuals, while contributing to theongoing development of clinical services and wider organisational objectives.

Main duties of the job

As aSpecialist Physiotherapist, you will be responsible for applying advancedclinical reasoning to interpret complex clinical and non-clinical informationand support accurate diagnosis across a range of conditions associated withspinal cord injury. You will use evidence-based knowledge to formulate detailedproblem lists, establish appropriate treatment goals and select relevantoutcome measures. You will apply a highly developed range of therapeutictechniques and intervention strategies, adapting these according to individualclinical findings and responses. You will also undertake advanced,comprehensive and, where appropriate, standardised assessments for patientswith complex and diverse presentations, seeking specialist guidance whererequired.

Job responsibilities

• Todetermine the most appropriate location for delivering physiotherapy input, consideringindividual circumstances and service requirements across ward, clinic,department and community settings. You Will adapt the location and organisationof your work according to changing patient needs and operational priorities.
• Tomaintain comprehensive, accurate and evaluative records of patient care,ensuring all documentation complies with relevant professional, legal,departmental and Trust requirements. You will ensure information is recordedclearly and is accessible to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Tocoordinate patient-related activities involving other disciplines, patients,carers, relatives and healthcare professionals, including collaborativegoal-setting and group activities. You will help facilitate effectivecoordination between those involved in supporting individual patients.
• Tocontribute to the safe and effective management of the physiotherapy caseloadby identifying situations requiring senior input and recognising the boundariesof your professional competence. You will seek appropriate advice whencircumstances fall outside your experience or level of responsibility.
• Todelegate appropriate tasks to physiotherapy support staff, providing suitabledirection and ensuring delegated activities are undertaken within agreed responsibilities.You will contribute to the effective organisation of team resources and supportthe smooth delivery of departmental activities.
• Tocomply with departmental and organisational policies, procedures andprofessional standards, contributing where appropriate to their review and development.You will support effective service administration through appropriate use of ITsystems, participation in departmental duties and responsible management ofresources.
