Site: The Portland Hospital, London
Full time Fixed Term from May/June for 1 year Maternity Cover
Hours: 37.5 hrs per week. Additional weekend and on call shifts once competencies have been completed.

We're looking for a Specialist Physiotherapist to join The Portland Hospital, currently rated "Good" by the CQC.

The Portland Hospital is the only private hospital in the UK dedicated to the healthcare of women and children. As the only fully private maternity hospital in the UK, delivering over 1,600 babies a year, we place great importance on providing safe and high quality care for expectant mothers.

As a Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist at the Portland Hospital, you will carry out accurate physiotherapy assessment, clinical diagnosis, and treatment of paediatric patients with diverse clinical presentations and complex physical and psychological needs in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.

This post is part of our 6 monthly specialist paediatric physiotherapist rotation programme, allowing rotation between various specialty areas such as Acute Services (Incl. PICU), Neurological Rehabilitation and SDR services, Orthopaedics, and MSK inpatient and outpatients.

Main duties:

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of paediatric patients, including those with diverse or complex pathology/presentations using appropriate clinical reasoning skills, observation skills, and manual assessment skills to provide an accurate physiotherapy diagnosis and understanding of their condition.
  • Formulate and implement an individual physiotherapy treatment program based on specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, appropriate clinical reasoning, and knowledge of appropriate treatments e.g. physiotherapy techniques, patient education, splinting, exercise classes, hydrotherapy, and other alternatives.
  • Provide physiotherapy intervention where there may be barriers to understanding such as foreign language or due to speech/hearing/visual impairment, cognitive/perceptual difficulties.
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent, and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Evaluate patient progress, reassess and progress or alter patient treatment programs within specified timeframes compliant with The Portland Hospital and physiotherapy service care pathways and guidelines.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive discharge plans in conjunction with other multidisciplinary team members.

What you'll bring:

  • HCPC Registration
  • Physiotherapy degree qualification or equivalent
  • Post registration experience in paediatrics (essential)
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists or equivalent (desirable)
