Job description

The role of the successful candidate will include:

  1. Provide technical support to the dispensary, including the labelling and dispensing of inpatient requests, outpatient and discharge prescriptions, controlled drugs, and clinical trials.
  2. Ensure a high standard of stock control and stock rotation within the dispensary.
  3. Assist pharmacists in providing comprehensive patient counselling to all outpatients to optimise patient knowledge of their medications.
  4. Provide technical support in the dispensary, assisting senior dispensary technicians with inpatient requests, dispensing, and labelling for TTA's. Complete in-house accreditations in the dispensary.
  5. Work effectively as part of a team in a multidisciplinary and pharmacy environment, maintaining rapport with medical and other colleagues.
  6. Assist in training junior staff, such as trainee pharmacists, pharmacy students, and student technicians.
  7. Counsel patients on their medicines in accordance with departmental standards.
  8. Enhance the quality of patient care and demonstrate a whole-system, patient-focused approach.

Candidate requirements

Applicants must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, hold a BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science, and an NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.

The successful candidate will contribute to late duty and weekend working.

The post holder is a qualified, registered Pharmacy Technician responsible for routine and non-routine activities, practicing safely and effectively at all times, and working under supervision to ensure high-quality, customer-focused pharmaceutical services.

Participation in Continuing Professional Development and working towards developing skills as a Pharmacy Technician Higher Level are expected.

This role is suitable for newly qualified Pharmacy Technicians or Trainee Pharmacy Technicians with experience in community or hospital pharmacy who wish to develop their skills further.
