You will be part of a multidisciplinary paediatric team and work closely alongside the Occupational Therapy and Speech and language therapy teams.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a physiotherapist to continue to develop in the field of community paediatrics by joining our Children’s Integrated Therapy Team. You will be part of a multidisciplinary paediatric team and work closely alongside the Occupational Therapy and Speech and language therapy teams.

Our service is responsible for providing physiotherapy intervention to children within the borough of Hillingdon, treating children and young adults with physical impairments and/ or developmental difficulties.

The caseload will be highly varied and promote your clinical and professional development within a supportive environment.

The caseload varies from orthopaedics (torticollis, talipes, Erb’s Palsy etc) to complex neurodevelopment conditions. Clinics we offer include hydrotherapy, CPIP, Upper Limb Intensive Therapy (joint with Occupational Therapy), as well as running developmental and exercise groups. We also have a service level agreement with Hillingdon Hospital to provide a Ponseti service with the local orthopaedic team.

We work out of a main base at Wood End Centre in Hayes and The Child Development Centre on the grounds of Hillingdon Hospital. We also work in other settings such as Children’s Centres, special and mainstream schools and patients homes.

The London borough of Hillingdon has good transport links to the centre of London by tube, bus and road including the M4 and M40 and access to the surrounding counties of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

Main duties of the job

To provide skilled paediatric physiotherapy assessment, treatment and consultation services for patients in the London borough of Hillingdon.

To work in a variety of community locations, including clinics, patient homes, the hydrotherapy pool, Health Centre’s, special and mainstream school settings, Early Years Centres.

Multi-disciplinary working with various other health professionals, the local authority, Hillingdon Hospital and tertiary centres is a vital component of this position.

To manage own workload and function as an autonomous practioner as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, providing specialist advice to other healthcare professionals, social care colleagues, junior physiotherapists, physiotherapy students and educational staff, which will include teaching and training.

You will have a strong interest in working with children and young people, with an understanding of statutory assessment for Education Health and Care Plans as part of SEND.

You will be able to develop your leadership skills with the responsibility of day-to-day operational management of junior or support staff and monitoring the quality of care given. The post holder will be expected to pro-actively identify and promote areas for service development.

The post holder will be expected to be highly motivated, energetic and a true team player with experience in paediatric physiotherapy. Excellent communication skills are expected and own transport will also be beneficial.

Professional development and training will be supported within our department by experienced paediatric physiotherapists and you will be part of an in-service training program. Development of excellent clinical skills will be promoted and you will be supported by senior staff with access to external training available in line with your personal development plan. As the service continues to develop you will be expected to become an integral part of this and you will be encouraged to carry out departmental projects and service development.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

To provide skilled Physiotherapy assessment service for patients, with a variety of clinical presentations including complex multipathology.

To plan, implement and evaluate treatment programmes on an ongoing basis to ensure that the identified needs of the individual are met in a variety of settings.

To present with highly developed communication skills, both in written and verbal. Such skills are expected in clinical and non-clinical settings multi-disciplinary settings.

To be able to manage, with support, potentially distressing situations which may involve clients, carers or other professionals.

To manage own caseload in all aspects related to the Physiotherapy care of clients. Addressing short, medium and long term goal setting with clients and others involved,

To work as an advocate for the patients best interest

Maintain clinical records in line with Departmental and CSP Standards. Contribute to Departmental audits and data collection.

To provide training and supervision to junior staff and students.

To contribute to service developments, in-service training and training to other professionals.

To work with the multi-disciplinary team including the local authority and have knowledge and awareness of the SEND reforms.

Education And Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Recognised Physiotherapy Degree qualification or equivalent
  • Registered member of Health Professions Council-licence (HPC) to practice.
  • Evidence of post graduate specialist short courses.

Desirable criteria

  • Member Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Special Interest Group Member in related subject(s)

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of good generalist skills, having covered rotations (or similar) including a neurology, Orthopaedics and musculo-skeletal
  • Experience in paediatric Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of working with specialist equipment and orthotics
  • Experience of working within the NHS

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a community environment
  • Experience of assisting in audit or research

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Ability to manage and prioritise a caseload along with other workload
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to client group).
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance in relation to Physiotherapy
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance/ audit
  • Competent word processing and presentation skills using appropriate software and databases
  • Understanding of the Trusts’ Health and Safety and Risk Management Procedures
