Frimley Health Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and proactive Specialist Paediatric Dietitian to work closely with a specialist multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to set up a new nationally funded obesity CEW (Complications from Extreme Weight) service for paediatrics. This is an exciting opportunity to be innovative in service development and be part of a dynamic and supportive MDT to provide holistic care and a comprehensive service to the local population.

You will be responsible for assessing the health and wellbeing of children and young people referred to the service and providing specific nutritional advice to assist in their health goals. You should have excellent communication skills, experience of using behavioural and motivational techniques to facilitate change, and be able to adapt your approach to meet the needs of the individual child/young person. Above all, you must be passionate about working with children and young people, using innovation to make positive changes.

The post will have funding for a one-year fixed term, for 2 days a week, to work in a cross-site capacity to initiate and set up the dietetic service. Thursday working will be required to attend specialist MDT clinics, and travel will be required for clinic attendance.

Main duties of the job

  1. Plan and provide evidence-based, highly specialist dietetic assessment, management, and treatment of patients in the CEW Service for children and young people, based on national and local priorities within the framework of clinical governance.
  2. Work with children, young people, and their families in obesity-focused outpatient clinics.
  3. Use behavioural and motivational techniques to facilitate positive change and provide individualized holistic care plans.
  4. Be innovative in your approach to patient care and service delivery, whilst being part of the dynamic MDT developing service.
  5. Scope to develop new dietetic services and approaches to weight management.
  6. Contribute to establishing patient care pathways; developing and adapting resources as appropriate.
  7. Work closely with the paediatric CEW MDT, contributing to MDT care planning and decision-making.
  8. Complete patient data and measure clinical outcomes.
  9. Collect and act on patient and parent/carer feedback.
  10. Contribute to audits, research, and specific projects within the specialty.
  11. Act as a source of expertise to healthcare professionals, dietitians, and others within the Frimley ICS.
  12. Contribute to relevant activities involved in providing this specialized service, such as regional and national meetings, audit, and research.
  13. Liaise with the national CEW programme as required for governance, shared learning, and development purposes.
