Job Description:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, extending to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

Hours may vary, but Thursday all-day coverage is essential. (Note: Salary is pro-rata for part-time hours.)

Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) services facilitate the delivery of intravenous and complex oral antimicrobials in outpatient settings, aligning with Hospital at Home and supporting the Scottish NHS Urgent and Unscheduled Care agenda. This new role offers a unique opportunity within a specialist multidisciplinary infection team.

We seek an enthusiastic Pharmacist to support the expansion of our OPAT service, primarily at Clyde hospitals, with remote support for the wider GGC OPAT service. The successful candidate will provide an advanced clinical pharmacy service to patients receiving or being considered for OPAT, adhering to BSAC OPAT Good Practice Recommendations and SAPG key performance indicators.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in weekly OPAT multidisciplinary team meetings and quarterly clinical governance meetings
  • Providing specialist clinical advice to the GGC OPAT team, infection specialists, healthcare professionals, and patients
  • Reviewing antimicrobial treatment plans and maintaining the OPAT patient database
  • Prescribing OPAT antimicrobial treatment plans
  • Developing supply procedures for OPAT prescriptions
  • Reviewing and developing antimicrobial guidelines
  • Providing training and education to patients and healthcare professionals
  • Participating in audit and research activities to improve the service

Training, support, and mentorship will be provided, aligned with the GGC antimicrobial stewardship agenda. Opportunities exist to develop evidence for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Advanced Pharmacy Framework. Candidates must have or be working towards an independent prescribing qualification.
