Job description

This is a new, high-profile post created to meet the growing needs of the service. You will be mainly based in the Sir William Rous Unit at Kingston Hospital, working as part of the partnership between Kingston Hospital and The Royal Marsden.

As a Specialist Oncology Pharmacist, you will be instrumental in ensuring high-quality patient care, working closely with senior Pharmacy, Medical, and Nursing leads to deliver the best possible service. The role is suited for a pharmacist with some experience in cancer services who wishes to develop specialist clinical knowledge while leading and managing a service.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the clinical oncology pharmacy service to oncology patients receiving anti-cancer treatments at the Sir William Rous Unit, including outpatient, day unit, and out-of-hospital care. Two days per week will involve working as an independent prescribing pharmacist within oncology clinics, reviewing patients and supporting their care. You will have access to our generous study leave policy (up to 10 days per year) and funding support for essential learning.

  1. Coordinate, deliver, and optimise clinical oncology pharmacy services at the Sir William Rous Unit.
  2. Lead the day-to-day specialist oncology pharmacy team service for NHS patients, including outpatient and out-of-hospital care.
  3. Provide specialised pharmaceutical advice and support to senior medical and nursing staff regarding medicines use.
  4. Clinically screen Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy prescriptions according to BOPA standards.
  5. Use non-medical prescribing to support outpatient clinics, lead patient consultations, and work with the multidisciplinary team to improve patient care.

  1. Lead and participate in the daily coordination and delivery of the clinical oncology pharmacy service.
  2. Support prescribing at the individual level, optimizing drug therapy considering risk/benefit.
  3. Clinically screen SACT prescriptions per BOPA standards.
  4. Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals to ensure safe, effective, and cost-efficient drug use.
  5. Review medication incident reports and conduct root cause analyses to improve patient safety.
