Job Description: Oncology Dietitian

The clinical caseload will focus on general oncology and haematology patients, providing cover to colleagues within the wider Dietetic oncology team. Responsibilities include seeing patients on inpatient wards, in the Arden Cancer Centre, and outpatient clinics. The team cares for patients who are palliative, end-of-life, and curative, emphasizing a person-centred approach. The role requires practitioners to be self-aware, have resilience strategies, and support the team through difficult situations.

1. Carry out dietetic assessments appropriate to role and experience, providing nutritional diagnosis and treatment plans.
2. Manage a patient caseload, including complex cases.
3. Maintain clinical records in line with guidelines.
4. Collaborate with dietetic colleagues and multidisciplinary team members, including medical, nursing, catering, and other healthcare professionals.
5. Work within national and trust policies, HCPC, and BDA standards.
6. Monitor own practice against national and local standards.
7. Participate in bank holiday work and flexible hours as needed.

Candidate Profile

We seek an experienced dietitian committed to learning and progressing within the oncology field. The ideal candidate will have experience in oncology, be prepared to apply and expand their knowledge, and be interested in a role supporting senior dietitians. Knowledge of the ACCEND national framework for cancer education and familiarity with Macmillan Cancer support are advantageous.

Role Responsibilities

1. Perform dietetic and nutritional assessments, interpreting clinical data to diagnose nutritional issues.
2. Provide specialist dietetic advice and treatment plans tailored to complex clinical conditions, considering patient goals and discharge planning.
3. Evaluate and modify treatment plans based on patient progress.
4. Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and carers, employing teaching and motivational skills.
5. Participate in departmental audits, service development, and research activities.
6. Supervise and support student dietitians during placements.
7. Contribute to staff education and departmental CPD activities.
8. Cover colleagues' duties and deputize for senior staff when necessary.
9. Engage in health promotion and other departmental duties.
