Qualifications

Are you passionate about improving housing conditions and making a real difference in people's lives?
A forward-thinking local authority is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Specialist Officer to join their Private Sector Housing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a varied and rewarding role, supporting the health and wellbeing of residents through proactive housing inspections, enforcement, and improvement initiatives.


Your new role
Hours: 22.2 per week (Pro rata)
Salary: £20,588 - £22,221 per annum (based on FTE £34,314 - £37,035)

  • Inspect private sector housing using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
  • Prepare schedules, notices, and enforcement actions to address hazards and non-compliance
  • Support delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) and housing assistance packages
  • Assess and license Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs)
  • Investigate complaints and respond to service requests
  • Contribute to empty homes and corporate risk work, including fire risk assessments
  • Liaise with landlords, tenants, letting agents, and other stakeholders

What you'll need to succeed

  • HNC in Building Studies, Environmental Health, or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, building construction, and enforcement procedures
  • Experience working with vulnerable clients and managing sensitive situations
  • Ability to work independently in the field and as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to access roof spaces and ladders
  • Experience with DFGs, HMO licensing, and empty homes strategies
  • Familiarity with CAD systems, benefits systems, and means testing
  • Knowledge of fire safety and energy performance standards
