Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

This is a fixed-term post of 23 months.

The shift pattern for this position is Monday to Friday.

Occupational Therapy staff in mental health services work in multidisciplinary teams to deliver both specialist and generic services, enabling service users to achieve health, well-being, and optimal functioning. Service users participate in graded treatments to minimize the impact of physical and mental health issues on independence.

Occupational therapy assessments are used within the team and by external agencies to evaluate functional ability and establish support needs to maintain independence in various living environments.

This post focuses on a targeted project aimed at reducing long waiting times in CAMHS, particularly for assessments and short interventions to facilitate timely treatment and discharge. The role requires innovative working methods within a small team dedicated to reducing waiting lists, with a likely emphasis on neurodevelopmental assessments. Job plans will be tailored to this specific waiting list work and managed by the Clinical Coordinator within the CAMHS team.

If you seek a new challenge involving service innovation and development to support timely, evidence-based care, we would like to hear from you.

Your Duties Will Include:

  • Working within CAMHS in a multi-agency framework, initially with a specific waiting list team focused on reducing wait times.
  • Managing a caseload independently, acting as care manager or key worker as needed.
  • Assessing occupational needs of clients using specialist skills to develop and evaluate treatment plans, incorporating risk assessments to promote independence and rehabilitation.
  • Conducting individual assessments to determine the need for occupational therapy interventions based on client-centered practice.
  • Neurodevelopmental assessments are expected to constitute a significant part of the caseload.

You Should Have:

  • A Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registration with the HCPC.
  • A practice education qualification or the ability to obtain one.
  • Up-to-date mandatory and statutory training, such as fire safety and management of aggression.

Proven specialist skills and knowledge in occupational therapy within mental health and/or youth services, gained through relevant training and multidisciplinary team experience.
