Specialist Occupational Therapist in Neurology

Although this position is a 12 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 12 months.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Band 5 Occupational Therapist ready to take the next step in their career progression into their first Band 6 role or an established Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic Stroke and Neurosciences team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the multidisciplinary team, working with patients who have suffered strokes and neurological conditions. Your expertise will contribute to their rehabilitation journey, helping them regain independence and improve their quality of life.

Main duties of the job
  • o Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical abilities, neurological conditions, and rehabilitation needs.
  • o Develop tailored treatment plans, utilizing evidence-based techniques and therapeutic interventions.
  • o Deliver one-on-one and group therapy sessions to enhance patients' mobility, coordination, strength, and overall function.
  • o Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Nurses, to provide holistic care.
  • o Monitor and evaluate patients' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families, empowering them to actively participate in the rehabilitation process.

o Contribute to the development of departmental policies, protocols, and research initiatives

Requirements:

  • o BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy, or equivalent qualification.
  • o Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • o Experience in Stroke and Neurology rehabilitation, demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge.
  • o Proven ability to conduct thorough assessments and formulate individualised treatment plans.
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting junior staff is advantageous.
