Job description
Overview

Are you a Band 5 Occupational Therapist looking to take the next step in your career, with the right support to build your confidence and clinical skills? An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic Occupational Therapist to join our Community Health Services team in Tower Hamlets. This is a developmental Band 5 to Band 6 role, starting in Band 5 with a structured bespoke development plan tailored to your learning needs. You will have access to regular supervision, protected learning time, and competency-based assessments, supported by experienced senior clinicians to develop clinical reasoning, risk management, and decision making in a safe, nurturing environment. Upon successful completion and sign-off of all agreed competencies, you will transition to an autonomous Band 6 role.

Development and progression

This developmental pathway is designed to build competence in managing more complex cases in the community. The post holder will rotate across service pathways and work with partners across health and social care to deliver holistic care in the community and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

Responsibilities
  • Identify, assess, and coordinate admission avoidance and discharge for patients in the Emergency Department and Clinical Decision Unit at The Royal London Hospital.
  • Provide specialist assessment and treatment for patients with complex physical, sensory, perceptual, and cognitive problems in the ED or at the patient’s home.
  • Work within the Rapid Response, Falls Pick up, and Intermediate Care Teams to support clients in their own homes and reduce unplanned hospital admissions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enable patients to maximise independence and return home safely and in a timely way.
  • Engage in a development plan and competency assessments, progressing to autonomous Band 6 as competencies are signed off.
What we offer
  • Structured, personalized development plan with protected learning time and supervision.
  • Team-based environment with a focus on integrated care and working across community and acute services.
  • Opportunities to develop clinical reasoning, risk management, and decision making within a supportive pathway.
Requirements

  • Motivated to grow and develop to Band 6 through a structured development plan.
  • Willingness to work across Emergency Department, rapid response, and community services, and to collaborate with health and social care partners.
