Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our motivated and enthusiastic team, delivering high-quality care within a15-bed dedicated inpatient rehabilitation unit.

This unit provides specialist rehabilitation for individuals with a range of complex needs, including those on a stroke pathway. You will play a key role in supporting patients through their recovery journey, helping them regain independence and improve quality of life.

This role includes

  • Working as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering person-centred rehabilitation
  • Contributing to service development alongside a Powys-wide neuro and stroke specialist team,

Occupational Therapy is a highly valued service, as a team we are deeply committed to delivering safe, effective and personalised care, underpinned by robust clinical governance.

Whilst some previous experience and post registration training in this speciality is ideal, we will consider those who haven't, to undertake a two-year training competency framework under Annex 21 Band 6. During this time you will obtain the relevant training and experience to meet the full competency framework of this Band 6 role and will be able to undertake all duties within this specialist occupational therapy job description.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a specialist OT Service within a designated area for Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB), responsible for:

Managing a caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan implement and evaluate interventions.

Provide leadership for junior staff through supervision and appraisal.

Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects.

Contribute to the maintenance and development of Powys Teaching Health Board Occupational Therapy Service.

Regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on practice placements.

Deputise for Team Leader when necessary.

Work flexible across locality and participate in the 7-day rota to meet the service needs.

Provide cover in other areas/specialities as appropriate and within competencies.

Provide a flexible service in locations most appropriate to patient's needsAllocate work to support staff, at all times monitoring their skills and competencies.

Qualifications and knowledge
  • Diploma or degree in OT
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of significant post graduate training e.g. range of short courses, in-house training
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Up to date knowledge of legislation
  • Specialist knowledge and application of Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions relevant to client group
  • Detailed knowledge of the principals of clinical governance and its application
  • Effective teaching and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of OT models of practice
