Job summary

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Nurse in Viral Hepatitis. This role involves managing patients within defined protocols, delivering high standards of care, and completing comprehensive training and assessments. The post holder will work closely with established clinical specialists, ensuring the best care for patients in the Hepatitis C team.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse / Midwife with evidence of continued professional development.
  • Specialist qualification relevant to Hepatitis management.
  • Extensive clinical experience and participation in research.

Responsibilities

  • Support and manage a cohort of patients with viral hepatitis under supervision.
  • Deliver high standards of care and participate in outreach services.
  • Attend and participate in the Hepatitis Nurse Forum and ID/Liver meetings.

Specialist Nurse - Viral Hepatitis

The closing date is 30 June 2025

The successful candidate will work within the Hepatitis C team working across The Liverpool Liver Unit and the Infectious Diseases Department.

The post will involve training to become competent in the management of patients with viral hepatitis. Training and assessment will be undertaken.

The post holder will support the Hepatitis C ODN. The role will be fully supported and supervised by established clinical nurse specialists/practitioners, the Nurse Consultant and Medical staff.

Main duties of the job

Working across Cheshire and Merseyside HCV Operational Delivery Network the role will involve identifying and supporting patients through their treatment pathways.

The post will involve training to become competent in the management of patients with blood borne viruses. Training and assessment will be undertaken.

Job responsibilities

Under supervision, support and manage a cohort of patients with viral hepatitis, within set protocols.

Develop and maintain clinical expertise and deliver the highest standards of care to meet the needs of the patients, their carers and significant others.

Work in the out-reach services which may include prison health

Provide a blood borne virus testing service as required.

To work alongside ID & Hepatology teams in the management of chronic disease.

Attend and participate in the Hepatitis Nurse Forum.

Attend and participate in the ID/Liver meetings.

Following training process patients referred with viral hepatitis through the Nurse-led clinic within a protocol driven pathway.Oct 2019

Follow training order and interpret investigations.

Follow training perform Fibroscan (non-invasive assessment of liver disease).

Develop and use own clinical judgment to refer directly to medical staff in line with department guidelines as required.

To liaise and exchange relevant information about patients with other hospital departments when necessary within defined statutory regulations.

Deliver presentations locally to disseminate good practice.
