Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Registered Band 6 Specialist Nurse to join our Sexual Health Intervention and Prevention (SHIP) Team. We are seeking an individual with the flexibility, enthusiasm, and commitment to make a real difference to patient care within our service.

As a key member of the SHIP team, you will lead on partner notification, contact tracing and results management across Sexual Health and HIV services. You will provide supervision and leadership to the Band 4 results team, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of the results pathway, while working closely with colleagues across multidisciplinary teams to maintain robust systems and investigate errors when required.

In addition, you will play an essential role in supporting SHIP team nurses in providing sexual and reproductive healthcare to a diverse patient group, including vulnerable populations and those under 18. You will be expected to deputise for Nurse Practitioners in the SHIP team and support them with referrals into the SHIP service.

We are looking for an inspirational clinical leader with dual training in sexual and contraceptive health, including LOC SDI, and awareness of safeguarding processes. You will bring excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and support colleagues, while showing a strong commitment to teamwork, innovation and delivering the highest standards of patient care.

Responsibilities:
  • To provide autonomous nursing care to meet the sexual health and contraceptive needs of our patient population, including assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment for the individual patient group.
  • To work within the SHIP team, supporting with referrals, audits and managing safeguarding cases - whilst also being a point of call for advice for the rest of the Sexual health and HIV services.
  • Lead on the partner notification pathway and provide professional and clinical leadership to the results team.
  • To lead on the results pathway for Sexual health and HIV services, liaising with the MDT, investigating errors and feeding back to staff.
  • To support the role of the Senior Charge Nurse and Nurse Practitioners in the implementation of a strategic development plan for nursing and nurse led services within the department.
  • To be actively involved and supportive of Senior Nursing staff in the development and implementation of a programme of nursing audit and research within the department.
