Specialist Nurse Practitioner Occupational Health

The Specialist Nurse Practitioner for Occupational Health plays a pivotal role in ensuring the health and wellbeing of employees across the client organisations the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Service supports.

As an experienced nurse, the job holder will co-ordinate activities in the department or on client premises ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified staff within the department. They will play a key role in the assessment of clients and Occupational Health & Wellbeing Service needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of Occupational Health & Wellbeing Service care.

The job holder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the Occupational Health &Wellbeing Service.

The post holder will work in partnership with the Senior Specialist Nurse Practitioner(s) and the clinical team to ensure that high standards of Occupational Health & Wellbeing Service are provided at all times. This includes ensuring that standards of cleanliness are maintained in the department and on client premises are met at all times.

Main duties of the job

The jobholder will work within an environment caring for clients of the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Service both internal to the Trust and for external client groups via contracts.

The jobholder will support the Band 7 Senior Specialist Nurse Practitioner(s) in the day to day management of the OH team

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
  • Registered Nurse (Level 1 of Nursing and Midwifery Council)
  • Degree/Occupational Health Diploma/certificate
  • Evidence of continued professional development and implementation of clinical practice within the last 12 months
Experience and Knowledge
  • Experience of working as a Band 6 (or above) in an Occupational Health Setting.
  • Experience of Sickness Absence/Case Management, Immunisation and Vaccination, pre-employment screening, health surveillance experience
  • At least one year post specialist qualification working in the field of Occupational Health
  • Experience of auditing
  • Working knowledge of Safe, Effective Quality Occupational Health Standards (SEQOHS)
  • Private sector and NHS Occupational Health experience at band 6 or equivalent level, managing a team/service
