Main duties of the job

Specialist Children and Young Peoples Service have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, values driven and passionate nurse to join Ferndene as a Specialist Nurse working into our new integrated model within our Inpatient Service.

The Specialist Nurse will work alongside the Ward Manager to provide a high level of nursing care and treatment to Children and Young People accessing the service with high care needs due to their complex difficulties and/or associated risks. The post holder will need to demonstrate excellent leadership skills to directly influence, inform, and advise on clinical training needs and provide specialist support, supervision, and training to staff within the service.

The role requires an understanding of child and adolescent mental health and Learning disabilities. Leadership and management skills, and a good understanding of complex mental health, attachment, and trauma issues. As well as a clear knowledge of complex needs of young people diagnosed with a learning disability and comorbidity such as neurodevelopmental needs working within a positive behaviour support framework.

Education and Qualifications
  • First level nursing qualification and registration.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience in therapies relevant to pathway
  • ENB 998/P126/127

Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision to clinical staff.
  • Specialised risk assessment skills, effective management tools and treatment formulation.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Commitment to Partnership working both multi-agency and multi-disciplinary.
