Job description

We are seeking a skilled and qualified NMP Nurse to work as part of a Specialist Multi-Disciplinary Team, providing high-quality care to children and young people (CYP) with a range of mental health difficulties and neurodevelopmental conditions (including ADHD and ASD). This Band 7 post offers an opportunity to be part of our nurse-led prescribing model, contributing to the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred prescribing and medication management.

The role will require the NMP to undertake prescribing and monitoring of SSRIs and medications for the management of ADHD. We offer:

  • Supportive induction and ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Regular supervision (clinical and managerial).
  • Opportunities to contribute to and shape our innovative nurse-led models of care.
  • A collaborative team environment.

Join us in making a real difference in the lives of children, young people, and families by providing compassionate, skilled, and responsive care within a service that values innovation, integrity, and inclusion.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing clear treatment protocols and pathways for managing children and young people with complex and persistent mental health problems (e.g., ADHD, ASD) in partnership with CAMHS colleagues.
  • Maintaining key worker responsibility for a defined caseload of children and young people with persistent and complex mental health difficulties.
  • Leading in conjunction with medical staff on the development of nurse-led clinics around prescribing and monitoring medication.
  • Adjusting medication doses within defined protocols and parameters under supervision from medical staff.
  • Recording and monitoring patients' physical observations and taking bloods for basic monitoring purposes when required.
  • Participating in child protection conferences and care team meetings as appropriate.
  • Participating in supervision systems within CAMHS.

Our services manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck, and Hexham, along with smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick-on-Tweed, including the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital. We also provide care in patients' homes and local community facilities, offering greater choice and control to help individuals live independently and avoid hospital admission where appropriate.

We are committed to high-quality patient care and strive to ensure every patient and service user has an exceptional experience. Our extensive patient experience programme is among the most comprehensive in England.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the development of effective, locality-based mental health services for children and young people with persistent and complex mental health issues, in partnership with CAMHS multidisciplinary teams.
  • Developing nurse-led clinics.
  • Raising awareness of the needs of this client group through clinical knowledge sharing, consultation, liaison, teaching, and training for professionals.
  • Assessing current services for families within North Tyneside, identifying service gaps, and helping develop services to meet these needs.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Nurse Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Community CAMHS team.
