Specialist Mentor - Autism Support (University of Cumbria)

Location: University of Cumbria
Hourly Rate: £28 + £3.38 holiday pay

Randstad Student Support is recruiting Specialist Mentors to support autistic students studying at the University of Cumbria. This is a hybrid role beginning with the new academic year and offers flexible hours to suit your schedule.

As a Specialist Mentor, you will work one-on-one with students to provide non-therapeutic support, helping them to overcome academic and personal challenges related to autism. Your role is crucial in empowering students to succeed and grow in higher education.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide one-to-one support to autistic students, helping them to:

Understand academic requirements and expectations.
Develop effective time management and organisational skills.
Break down tasks to meet academic deadlines.
Balance study with daily living activities.
Manage anxiety, stress, or low mood related to university life.
Prepare for new or challenging experiences.
Build confidence and foster independence through their strengths.

You will need to work collaboratively with Randstad to report any concerns and ensure that students receive the best possible support. Maintaining professionalism and confidentiality is essential at all times.

Essential Requirements

To be eligible for this role, all candidates must meet the requirements of the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) qualification framework as outlined by the Department for Education.

You must:

Hold an undergraduate degree (minimum Level 6).
Have completed comprehensive autism-specific training suitable for higher education settings.

Accepted training includes:

  • Six NAS Modules (Non-Medical Helper package),
    OR

  • The Optimum Training Course - Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing the barriers through Non-Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies.
