Specialist Learning Disability Occupational Therapist

This is a rare, exciting opportunity for 2 Specialist Occupational Therapists to join the East Hampshire and Southampton Community Learning Disability Teams based in Southampton and Fareham covering the east area of Hampshire and Southampton. We are looking for creative, enthusiastic OTs to join the established OT team who work within a dynamic, friendly multidisciplinary team (MDT) providing a service to adults with a learning disability.

You will need to be familiar with MDT working and experienced in working with people with a learning disability who can appear challenging.. Sensory Integration and AMPS / PRPP-UK qualifications would be beneficial. It is essential to be highly motivated, reliable and able to work flexibly.

  • You will need a UK Driving License and use of your own car as you will be working in the community, visiting clients in their homes, residential services, supported living services and day services. There are 2 posts available, a permanent full time post and a 12 month fixed term part time post (22.5 hours per week). The 1 year fixed term post will be concentrating on consultation, working to reduce waiting lists and running groups and clinics.

Main duties of the job
  • Facilitate the assessment, treatment, monitoring and evaluation of individuals with a learning disability, considering all needs holistically
  • To deliver person centred, evidence based assessment and interventions
  • Take part on rotation with assessing referrals to the Learning Disability service in the Single Point of Access team
  • Provide specialist knowledge and skills when working with adults with Learning Disabilities and additional physical disabilities, challenging behaviour and sensory integration difficulties
  • To communicate effectively with service users with Learning Disabilities, their families, carers and service providers building rapport and good working practices
  • To maintain Occupational Therapy service standards by use of agreed frames of reference, models of practice and related forms of assessment, formulation, goal setting, reporting and outcome measuring
  • To conduct and maintain risk assessments and put risk plans in place
  • To carry out critical analysis and formulation of situations and use a level of judgement to formulate solutions in complex situations.
  • Liaise and participate with other professionals both within the MDT and within other local organisations and agencies as appropriate
  • To have a professional curiosity and be aware of the safety of service users at all times and implement Trust Safeguarding guidelines
  • To keep records up-to-date and to maintain confidentiality and compliance
  • To work within the Care Programme Approach (CPA) Framework

Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
Experience
  • Experience of working with adults or children with Learning Disabilities, experience of working as a registered Occupational Therapist and experience of supervising or leading others
  • Experience of working within a Community Learning Disability Team
  • Experience of working within an Intensive Support Team - LD
