Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  1. Provide a comprehensive medical inpatient service.
  2. Be responsible for diagnosis and treatment for general medical inpatients.
  3. Participate in the 1:11 general medicine on-call rota as agreed with appointee.
  4. Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
Person specification
Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Membership with the Royal College of Physicians or Equivalent.
  • GMC registration and license to practice.
Experience
  • Experience in acute ward based and outpatient medicine.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in general medicine.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  • At least twelve years post graduate experience with minimum six year at the Specialty Doctor or equivalent level, and in general medicine.
Teaching
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, post graduates and junior medical staff.
Audit and Research
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to specialty.
Motivation
  • Commitment to the development of a high-quality, cost-effective service.
Management
  • Knowledge and understanding of current NHS issues.
  • Ability to develop services.
Personal Skills
  • Energy and enthusiasm and the ability to work under pressure.
  • An enquiring and critical approach to work.
  • Caring attitude to patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other staff and agencies.
