Job description

Specialist in Discrete Element Modelling for Masonry Conservation Engineering (KTP Associate)

You will be supported by an interdisciplinary team from the University, led by Enrico Tubaldi, with expertise in advanced modelling of masonry structures and soil-structure interaction systems. You will also have support from a Senior Company Supervisor.

Main Activities/Responsibilities:

1. Conduct advanced assessments of masonry structures and soil-structure interaction systems using research-level methods.
2. Develop expertise in complex numerical modelling approaches, such as discrete macro element modelling, and soil-structure interaction.
3. Perform non-destructive assessments, analyze sensor data to reduce uncertainty in structural condition, and address risk assessment and communication for heritage structures. Additionally, train Will Rudd’s engineering team on these topics.
4. Engage effectively with end-users (heritage trusts, local authorities, agencies), understand their needs, and demonstrate how project tools can address their challenges. Adapt to varying markets, customer, and regulatory requirements (e.g., BS standards, UKSPECHRB, Eurocode).
5. Manage projects by balancing technical development with commercialization efforts to maximize impact, coordinating with WRD colleagues to align technical solutions with business goals. Demonstrate adaptability, multidisciplinary skills, and proactive problem-solving.
6. Prepare and deliver training and educational events to technical and non-technical audiences.
7. Implement advanced modelling and monitoring strategies for assessing and analyzing new and heritage masonry structures.
