The Paediatric Oncology and Haematology department at Leeds Children's Hospital is looking to appoint a Specialist Grade Doctor to a permanent post:
The post will be adapted based on previous experience and ongoing needs of the appointee, but will primarily be outpatient/day care based. If the post-holder is approaching or has completed CCT, they will be given significant clinical responsibility within the department, with consultant support.
The Paediatric Oncology & Haematology Department at Leeds Children's Hospital is a principal treatment centre treating all newly diagnosed children from the region. It handles approximately 130 new referrals of children and teenagers with malignant disease per year. The service is delivered by a large, comprehensive multi-professional team in both in-patient and out-patient settings, including day care facilities. The centre is also a tertiary benign paediatric haematology centre with a large population of children with bleeding disorders and haemoglobinopathies. The wider children's hospital offers a full range of paediatric subspecialties, including congenital cardiac surgery, renal transplantation, and a supra-regional liver transplant service.

2. Objectives of the post
The post will be tailored to the candidate's experience and departmental needs, focusing on outpatient/day care. Post-CCT or approaching CCT candidates will have significant clinical responsibilities with consultant support. Key duties include reviewing patients, prescribing chemotherapy, attending MDTs, and contributing to clinical governance and procedures.

3.1 Training and Qualifications

Must meet core capabilities for the Specialist grade, demonstrating safe working practices, as outlined by relevant medical bodies and NHS standards.

Practise in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice and professional values.
3.4 Clinical Audit
Engage in clinical audits, inquiries, and incident reviews, contributing to quality improvement activities and clinical governance.
