Job description

Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Forensic Recovery Worker to join our team, working with individuals and delivering psychosocial interventions for substance use in both group and individual formats, whilst holding a caseload of service users who are case managed by the FIRST service.

In this role, you will undertake specialist assessment and formulation of forensic service users' substance use problems and provide consultation, support, and advice regarding substance use issues to staff working within forensic inpatient wards, as well as to staff within the FIRST service.

Main duties of the job

  1. Provide a dedicated, comprehensive Tier 2 & 3 service to people experiencing, or at risk of relapse into, substance use problems.
  2. Offer advice and guidance to colleagues within the FIRST service and wider Forensic directorate on issues pertaining to working with people who use substances.
  3. Work closely with FIRST case managers to integrate substance use intervention into care plans where appropriate.

Job description

Full duties are detailed in the attached job description. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing harm reduction advice, information, and support focusing on safer drug use, safer sex, HIV, Hepatitis A, B, and C, and other blood-borne infections.
  • Offering Naloxone to all clients as a precautionary measure.
  • Facilitating access to BBV testing.
  • Maintaining a full caseload of forensic mental health clients as the key worker.
  • Working with forensic teams and colleagues to reduce stigma related to substance use and forensic history, enabling access to care and support in the community.
  • Providing or supporting access to long-term recovery support through recovery communities and LEROs, ensuring safety and inclusivity.
  • Supporting tailored relapse prevention interventions prior to hospital discharge.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential):

  • Foundation Degree / HNC in related fields such as counselling, social work, nursing, psychology, human resources, social studies, or equivalent experience.

Experience (Essential):

  • Significant experience working with drug users.
  • Understanding and commitment to harm reduction and recovery approaches.
  • Experience with techniques such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

Skills (Essential):

  • Understanding of patients' physical health needs; ability to perform blood pressure checks, infection control, and adhere to COSHH standards.
  • Knowledge of drugs and their effects.
  • Flexibility to work across the county and adapt to service needs.
