Trading Standards Officer - Technical
Birkenhead · Contract · £32.10 per hour PAYE or £41.28 per hour limited paid via umbrella company inside IR35
Responsibilities
- Carry out criminal compliance enforcement activities across service functions.
- Carry out inspections, surveys, and investigations into complex and serious breaches of trading standards legislation.
- Identify legal contraventions and select and execute appropriate enforcement activity based on assessed risk.
- Present solutions for resolution to complex issues.
Qualifications
- Professional CTSI Trading Standards qualification (DTS/DCATS including Food and Legal Metrology modules) or equivalent, plus a university degree.
- Knowledge and Skills: demonstrate the ability to represent the Trading Standards Service at meetings, participate in coordinating or leading regional initiatives and projects with other Local Authorities, professional bodies, or external organisations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence behaviour.
- Knowledge of current and proposed Trading Standards legislation and statutory guidance.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and to a high level of accuracy.
- Knowledge of Enforcement Procedures and PACE.
- Ability to prepare reports, undertake correspondence, conduct interviews and collate case files for Legal Services. Ability to investigate and undertake complex projects.
- Effective time management skills and awareness of equality issues.
- Computer literacy and ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Willingness to work out of hours to meet service needs.
Experience
- Experience in working in a large urban authority or private sector organisation.
- Experience in a Trading Standards service.
- Experience of investigating consumer complaints.
- Experience of providing business advice to members of the public and commercial undertakings.
- Experience of Civil Enforcement procedures and the Enterprise Act.
