Job summary

SMT is seeking a Specialist Engineer based at our Brownhills depot to act as a subject matter expert, supporting the effective maintenance, diagnosis and performance of Volvo construction equipment. You will drive technical excellence across the depot and support both internal teams and customers with complex issues.

You will work closely with Customer Support Representatives, engineers and management to ensure a consistent and high-quality approach to problem solving and service delivery,

Qualifications

• Formal engineering qualification (mechanical, electrical or automotive).
• Significant experience servicing heavy construction equipment (Volvo desirable).
• Advanced diagnostic and fault-finding skills across hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems.
• Experience mentoring engineers and sharing best practices.
• Strong communication with customers and stakeholders.
• Root cause analysis with long-term solution focus.
• Attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices.
• IT literate with diagnostic tools and systems.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Providing on-site and remote technical support to engineers and customers.

• Monitoring equipment performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Assisting with the rollout of new technologies, systems and service processes.
• Collaborating with wider business functions to drive service efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Job description

We are looking for a Specialist Engineer to be based from our Brownhills depot. This is a senior technical role where you will act as a subject matter expert, supporting the effective maintenance, diagnosis and performance of Volvo construction equipment. You will play a key role in driving technical excellence across the depot, supporting both internal teams and customers with complex issues, while contributing to continuous improvement and service efficiency.

You will work closely with Customer Support Representatives, engineers and management teams, ensuring a consistent and high-quality approach to technical problem solving and customer delivery., You will act as a technical expert within the business, supporting both customers and colleagues to maintain high service standards and machine performance.

• Acting as the primary point of contact for complex technical queries and escalations

Qualifications

• Formal engineering qualification (mechanical, electrical or automotive)
• Significant experience servicing and repairing heavy construction equipment (Volvo highly desirable)
• Advanced diagnostic and fault-finding skills across hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems
• Experience supporting or mentoring engineers, sharing knowledge and best practice
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with customers and internal stakeholders
• Proven ability to carry out root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices
• IT literate, with confidence using diagnostic tools and systems
• Full UK driving licence
