Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a Specialist Doctor in Neurology to deliver high-quality assessment, diagnosis and management of a broad range of neurological conditions. You will contribute to inpatient and outpatient services, collaborating with Consultants, trainees and nursing staff.

The post offers opportunities to develop specialist interests, engage in teaching and research, and participate in a 1:10 on-call rota with coverage including out-of-hours in weekdays.

Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration and licence to practice.
• Minimum of 12 years since obtaining medical degree and two years in the relevant specialty.
• Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations.
• Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training in GIM or AIM (+/- Another Medical Specialty).
• Experience in Neurology and ability to supervise trials and research.

The Neurology Specialist Doctor will work as part of the multidisciplinary Neurology team, providing high-quality assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with a broad range of neurological conditions. The postholder will contribute to inpatient and outpatient services, working closely with Neurology Consultants, Specialist Doctors, trainees, nurses and allied health professionals.

The role provides an opportunity to develop specialist interests while contributing to the delivery and improvement of the wider neurology service.

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities of the post

The overriding purpose is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

Responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department

Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences

To participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with the other Consultants in the department, the CMG and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs

Participating in medical audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes and in CPD CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory

In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work

The post-holder is expected to respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers this might include investigations of incidents or complaints

The post-holder is expected to participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided for this purpose

The post-holder will be expected to undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific Induction and competency Programmes appropriate to role

The post-holder will be required to maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate. As per the Trust requirement the successful candidate will be required to have annual appraisal and attend / keep fully up to date with statutory and mandatory training as stipulated

Person Specification

Audit

• Experience in, and commitment to medical audit.
• Undergone training in teaching and willingness to organise relevant audit activities.
• Completion of formal coursesin audit.
• Published Audit.

Research

• Understanding and interest in research.
• Ability to appraise research critically
• Ability to supervise juniors undertaking research projects.
• Publicationsin nationally and internationally recognised peerreviewed journals on subjects relevant to the specialty.
• Evidence ofrecentresearch and development activity
• Previous first author publications in relevant publications
