Job summary

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Substantive Consultant in Neurophysiology to lead the neurophysiology service at Penrith Hospital. The role spans out-patient and in-patient consultations, with opportunities to develop subspecialties and participate in teaching and research.

The appointee will contribute to clinical governance, supervise staff, and support service development across NCIC’s sites.

Job overview

Applications are invited from experienced Substantive Consultants to join the Speciality Medicine Collaborative, here at NCIC. The Neurology service is delivered across a number of outpatient's sites in North Cumbria as well as providing an in reach service to the 2 acute hospitals. In addition to managing general Neurology referrals, the trust has developed a number of sub specialties and would welcome Neurophysiologists seeking full or part time hours.

Important roles for all Consultant posts include:

  • The appointee will be expected to be responsible for the provision of the Neurophysiological Service to the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust
  • Following consultation, to further develop the provision of the Clinical Neurophysiological Services.
  • To carry out teaching duties as required and to take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education Programme and in the training programme for Clinical Physiologists.
  • To take part in the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust Clinical Governance programme.
  • To provide professional and clinical supervision to the Clinical Neurophysiologists.
  • To be involved in research where appropriate.
  • To actively participate in the management of the services of the Directorate

Main duties of the job

The posts will involve out-patient and in-patient consultations. Specific commitments would be agreed in negotiation with colleagues once appointed, There are a number of outpatients clinics that are delivered cross sites across the Trust when needed giving you the opportunity to see the wonderful landscape of North Cumbria . The department also operates A&G to GP and consultant colleagues alike within normal office hours.

Qualifications
  • Fully registration with the General Medical Council
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Entry on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview)
  • MD or PhD degree
  • Special interest in any area of Neurophysiology

  • Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

  • Experience of working with primary care / community colleagues
