The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a part-time Specialist Doctor in Ophthalmology to join a collaborative team. Specialist Doctor in Ophthalmology

We are looking to recruit a part-time doctor to take up a Specialist role under 2021 contract terms in Ophthalmology, sub-specialty cornea. The post is based at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, Harlow, which is a busy and friendly district general hospital, where you will work as part of our well established ophthalmic team. The department has also developed good links and works collaboratively with local tertiary trusts in the surrounding area.

This is a senior appointment for an individual possessing substantial experience in the ophthalmic field,

We are looking for an individual with good general ophthalmic and cornea skills.

Training and support for those looking to achieve CESR accreditation is available.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Possession of Post-Graduate qualification in Ophthalmology e.g. FRCOpth or equivalent thereof
  • Full registration with GMC and licence to practice
  • Completion of a fellowship or demonstrate training in cornea subspecialty
Experience
  • Minimum 12 years' medical work (either a continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, of which a minimum of six years should be in Ophthalmology in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades (or equivalent including overseas service).
  • To perform cornea graft surgeries and corneal surgeries independently ( logbook needed to demonstrate)
  • Able to manage simple and complex corneal and external eye disease
  • Perform independent simple and complex surgeries
  • Management experience or attendance at courses for senior mid-level practitioners.
Skills
  • Clinical supervision experience/skills
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist services, including experience of organising and managing out-patient priorities and waiting lists
  • Cataract surgery skills sufficient to support safe independent UK surgical practice
  • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
  • Special Interest aligned with departmental operational requirements
