Job description

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Doctor in General Surgery & Upper GI. The post will be based in the Department of General Surgery and will support elective day case clinical activity in the general surgery and upper GI firms.

The primary purpose of the role will be to support the general surgery service, with a degree of flexibility expected depending on the precise requirements. The post holder will perform independent general surgery outpatient clinics, have access to theatre, and be allocated sufficient admin time to manage the output from these clinics.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in close co-operation with other clinical, medical, professional, and managerial colleagues to provide high-quality, safe healthcare to patients. This includes providing a first-class service, effective leadership, and active involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.

The post holder will also be expected to participate in teaching and training of postgraduate doctors, contribute to the management of the clinical service, and undertake clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and trust policies.

Qualifications and skills
  • On GMC specialist Register relevant to the post, or within 6 months of being admitted to GMC specialist register by date of interview
  • Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD, PhD)
  • Able to operate independently on minor benign colorectal procedures, open &/or laparoscopic hernia repair, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy
  • Experience of teaching and training medical students and junior doctors
  • Previous consultant-level experience in colorectal/general surgery
Working pattern and contract

This is a 10 PA post, with an average of 8 PAs of direct clinical care and 2 SPA. The post is fixed term for 12 months, with a full-time working pattern.

Salary: £100,870 to £111,441 a year (pro rata)
