Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a Specialist in Gastroenterology to join a team of gastroenterologists and specialist nurses delivering high-quality care across Shropshire, Wrekin and Mid Wales. You will work in clinic and Endoscopy, with opportunities to perform complex procedures.

The role includes contributing to an on-call rota and teaching junior staff, with a focus on advancing clinical skills and patient pathways within a multi-professional team.

Responsibilities

• To provide specialist care for Gastroenterology/Hepatology patients including in-patients, in-reach/review of referrals, day unit treatments, out-patient clinics and endoscopy lists.
• To provide service work to maintain endoscopy and clinic waits to comply with national and local targets.
• Maintenance of the highest standards in the care of patients with Gastroenterology conditions
• To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of Gastroenterology.
• Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students and other healthcare professionals.
• To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
• To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
• To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
• To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust for a Specialist in Gastroenterology to join our existing team of accomplished Gastroenterologists and Specialist Nurses who have a passion for delivering high-quality care to our patients in the county of Shropshire, Wrekin and Mid Wales.

The department offers extensive opportunities to work independently and alongside consultants both in a clinic environment and in Endoscopy, with access to complex procedures, modern equipment and specialist interests.

Contribution to an out of hours on call rota is core to this role.
