Job summary

Specialist Doctor in Elderly Care

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Specialist Grade doctor in Elderly Care to join our friendly and enthusiastic team at the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC). An enthusiastic and forward-thinking SAS doctor will work within a supportive team covering North Cumbria.

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for this post on a part-time basis. Visits can be arranged for candidates and their families in order to appreciate the quality of life our Hospitals and the surrounding area can offer. Applicants must hold valid registration with the GMC.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at the Cumberland Infirmary but working as an integrated service covering West Cumberland Hospital. The successful applicant will complement our team of existing Consultants, SAS doctors and specialist nurses, together providing inpatient and outpatient activity for Elderly care and Parkinson's patients

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

• Full registration with GMC
• Entry onto the GMC specialist register (or anticipated date within 6 months)
• MRCP
• ALS
• Educational Qualification

Experience

• At least 12 years of post-graduate experience, including 6 years' experience in Elderly Care, this may include experience in Elderly Care within other specialties for example General Practice.
• Clinical training and experience in the relevant specialty, equivalent to that required to gain entry to the UK Certificate of Completed Training (CCT) in Geriatric Medicine
• Experience of, and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff
• Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework
• Experience of Acute General Medicine.
• Experience of Movement Disorders.
• Experience of audit / previous publications
• Experience of working in the NHS
• Examples of involvement in collaborative leadership work

Communication Skills and Abilities

• Excellent communication skills - verbal and written as evidenced by CV / job application and communication skills at interview.
• Able to conduct effective communication with patients, clinical and non-clinical colleagues.

• Ability to commit to the requirements of the post.

• High standard of clinical skill and expertise in Geriatrics evidenced by references / portfolio
