Entry Criteria for a Specialist Doctor

• Full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council.
• Minimum of 10 years’ medical work experience since primary medical qualification, with at least six years in a relevant specialty, including experience from overseas or other medical grades.
• Meet the criteria set out in the Specialist grade capabilities framework.

We welcome enthusiastic candidates to join our well-established community child and adolescent mental health team in Tier 4 CAMHS for a permanent, full-time (40 hours/week) position based between the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and RHCYP. Flexible and part-time job plans are supported.

The Tier 4 CAMHS team includes the 12-bedded inpatient unit (Melville Unit), CAOT (CAMHS Assertive Outreach Team), and Day Programme. The post is predominantly based in CAOT, a multidisciplinary team supporting discharges from inpatient to community CAMHS and working to prevent inpatient admissions by providing enhanced support.

Post Summary

• Provide mental health services for children (0-18 years) supported by Tier 4 services in NHS Lothian.
• Provide clinical supervision to higher and core trainees.
• Participate in clinical audits.
• Contribute to the implementation of Lothian’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services strategies.
• Offer reciprocal cover during colleagues’ leave.
• Undertake duties as an Approved Medical Practitioner under the Mental Health Care and Treatment (Scotland) Act 2003.
• Perform other duties as agreed with the Clinical Director and Clinical Service Manager.
